LET THERE NOT BE APATHY HERE.

I think the title says it all here and I’ll only implore you to read till the end to see the necessity of not allowing apathy here.

Article IV,section I, subsection II of the RENARSA Constitution clearly states that any member of the association who is qualified by virtue of the constitution has the right to vote and be voted for twice during his or her stay as undergraduate in the faculty. Simply put we’re talking about political apathy.

Second semester is upon us greatest Renarsaites and it is almost time to exchange the baton of leadership of the association. And the stories that is being said sometimes is the disinterest students have when it comes to taking leadership positions. The last two elections has fairly been participated in by Renarsaites. The last election recorded almost two-third of the whole association coming out to vote. But the question is, what percentage of the association is coming out and standing in the front line waiting to be voted for? Of a truth, the last election saw most of the offices being contested for, by at least two persons from different departments in the faculty and real politics was unveiled in our dear faculty. Some positions were left unopposed especially the post of the PRO, General secretary and the assistant,which shouldn’t be.

Why should you contest for those posts? First because it your right to be voted for. Secondly, because the association is yours(ours) and we should contribute our quota to her prosperity. Sometimes many people think they do not have the capacity to carry the weight of the association but in the real sense, they posses the intellectual capability and ruggedness more than the courageous ones that are vying for those posts. You only need to get the necessary numbers which is as little as just a number higher than the other contestants.

It is an avenue for you to boost your curriculum vitae, and prepare yourself for the future;this is not to say that you should declare intentions with crude minds, utmost unpreparedness and cold passion for leadership. When you posses a refined mind, sound and confident in your abilities, who says you cannot make a change that is needed. Change is constant that is why no matter how great or fantastic the present or previous administrations are, they are not perfect. Which symbolizes that there are many other things you can do if you come into leadership position.

As of the time of writing this, the level of awareness seen and heard of is on the average. And we can do more by giving voters the privilege to choose right and not just cast vote for devils because there seem to be no other option. The faculty is young and kicking that is why she only needs vibrant and active minds in those offices. If you as an eligible contestants isn’t contesting, at the end of the day, the association will make do with whatever type of person we got. And obviously it might be too late to correct. Therefore Renarsaites, this is a clarion call to you all to shun apathy and get involved.
