IF WISHES WERE HORSES.

There was a kid who at a tender age was filled with charisma and looking at the he does things in school, at home or anywhere one could tell that he is a very promising child, him and his friends were sharp and wish they could become anything they want in life. The kid was barely 9 year old, at that age one could easily think that life is a very simple thing to live and live to become whatever you may ever think of. One day, one of the kid’s uncles asked him of where he sees himself in the next 15 years, the kid with excitement and joy list a great deal of what he would have achieved and become by that time. He said in the next 15 years he sees himself to have graduated from the University with a degree of L.L.B law, to have started living in banana highland with Benz and plenty cars, he said he would have become the president of his country ruling with power and living a very comfortable life. The kid said by that time his mama and papa would be riding their personal cars given to them by him, not only that he would build plenty companies in his village and his brothers and sisters will never know poverty again. As he finished the uncle hailed and everyone clapped for him to cheer him up.

But, life as it is unpredictable dealt with the boy in a very serious style. At the age of 12 when the boy just entered secondary School his father gave up the ghost, living their mother the responsibilities of father and mother with her alone to bear. They started fighting hard with life and sufferness keep increasing in their abode, while still battling with that the mother was advised to change the school her were attending because the school fees was too much for her to bear or even some of the children should drop academics and start doing something else. The woman had no choice but to heed to the advice. Then this boy and others left school to learn hand work, the worse situation was that they couldn’t afford the money demanded from where they were learning the hand work,so they had to stay at home, hawk puff puff and groundnut for their mother or do nothing. Ten years passed, 11, 12, 13, and at the fourteenth year after the boy made a wish, he requested to go to somewhere else from his mother, expecially, Lagos so that he can hustle and gather money to start a small business. Life stood at a corner laughing at the boy and recounting all what he had said he would have become at that point in time.

It is now 15 years after the wish, the boy is seen with packs of chinchin and soft drinks at iyana ipaja in Lagos traffic running after cars and buses to sell to them so he can make money to put food in his mouth, the boy work from mouth till dusk every day just to make little money, he would salutes and hail those with fine cars so they could drop money for him to share with other hustlers. Then one day, the boy remember what he said he would be doing 15 years from when he was small to now. The chariamtic, energetic and promising child full of lots of positive wishes, who wanted to become a lawyer and the president of his nation and rule with power is now here weak, dirty, and living a lowly life. He couldn’t hold himself and burst into tears, he said life is not always the way we want it, that life is not a mate of anybody, life can dealt with you seriously and make you forget what you ever wished for. He then end it with the proverb that says “if wishes were horses beggars would ride”.
